Unity Catalog is Databricks’ unified governance layer for all data and AI assets, offering centralized access control, auditing, lineage tracking, and data discovery across workspaces. It enables administrators to “define once, secure everywhere” with ANSI SQL–based permissions that apply uniformly to tables, views, volumes, and registered models. Built-in audit logs capture user activity, while automated lineage visualizes how data flows through notebooks, jobs, and queries. Unity Catalog also supports tag-based asset documentation, quality monitoring, and open data sharing via Delta Sharing, empowering organizations to manage and govern their Lakehouse data estate with fine-grained security and comprehensive visibility.
